Hi Angela! So tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m from Salt Lake City, UT and train in Colorado Springs. I started skating when I was 5 because the Olympics were in my hometown, so I’ve been skating for what…15 years?! Holy cow. I’ve dedicated three quarters of my life to a sheet of ice?! Yikes! But I really do love it and wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
I currently train under Christy Krall, Ryan Bradley, and Erik Schulz.
What’s been the biggest obstacle for you this past season?
Coming back from my foot/ankle injury has definitely been the biggest obstacle for me this season. I was so excited to have been assigned to Nebelhorn and Skate America and absolutely devastated when I had to withdraw. That time period was difficult both mentally and physically but luckily, I had an amazing support system who helped me get back on my feet (literally) and better than where I was before the injury.
You fought back and finished the season strong, way to go! Ok, so think way back, long long ago. What’s your earliest skating memory?
It’s a very blurry and vague memory; I recall taking lessons from my first skating coach, Doug Webster, when I was 5 or 6, and my favorite thing to do was follow him around, skating as fast as I could, and copy his movements. I don’t know why this moment in particular stuck with me so well, but one day I was following him doing spiral to shoot-the-ducks (I ended up eventually belly flopping on a spiral), and I can still recall the joy and freedom I felt doing that.
Is there a routine you’ll go through on a competition day?
Oooo this one’s a toughie because every competition is so different. There’s usually a nap involved and watching some funny shows or dog videos to relax and kill time.
What are your hobbies outside of skating?
Does petting dogs count?
Yes! For you, we will let that count.
